Remember the Removal

Kristen Mankiller

Kristen Mankiller

Siyo! I’m Kristen Mankiller, a proud Cherokee and Choctaw woman, a citizen of the Cherokee Nation, and a resident of Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Growing up between California and Oklahoma, the time I spent with my grandparents deeply shaped who I am and helped keep me connected to our Cherokee ways. Those experiences instilled in me an open mind, a strong sense of identity, and a deep appreciation for the teachings that continue to guide us as Cherokee people.

For nearly 16 years, I’ve had the honor of working for Cherokee Nation and supporting programs that serve our citizens. That work has strengthened my commitment to our people, our culture, and our future. Joining the Remember the Removal Ride represents more than a physical challenge for me — it is an opportunity to honor our ancestors, continue learning and growing, and help carry our story forward with purpose, and gratitude.

In my free time, I enjoy being outdoors, camping, spending time on the Illinois River, and making memories with family and friends. I also strive to stay active in my community whenever I can, because those connections remind me where I come from and who I carry with me every day.
